Fraud and Abuse: AAGIn fiscal year 2007, the Workers Compensation Fraud and Abuse Section investigated 615 cases of suspected fraud and abuse. The unit recovered $244,006.42 in civil penalties and restitution. The Division's Fraud and Abuse Section was created in 1993 to combat fraudulent activities in the workers compensation system. The section is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of alleged violations of the Workers Compensation Act. Jack Hobbs serves as Assistant Attorney General in this Division. Since July 2007, he is responsible for directing and assisting with the investigation and prosecution of those who violate provisions of the Workers Compensation Act. Hobbs earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2004 and his undergraduate degree (with an emphasis in social science) from Emporia State University in 2001, where he graduated summa cum laude. While still in law school, Hobbs worked in the Johnson County District Attorney's office where his expertise focused on cases related to domestic violence. Later, Hobbs worked as a workers compensation defense attorney for both Wallace, Saunders, Austin, Brown and Enoch's in Wichita and Fairchild & Buck PA in Lawrence, Kansas.
