Primary Functions
The Medical Services Section administers the Kansas Division of Workers Compensation's fee schedule for provision of medical
services to injured workers. The section revises the fee schedule on a biannual basis to assure that the fee schedule is reasonable
and promotes health care cost containment, yet ensures the availability of necessary treatment and care for injured employees.
This section also administers a plan for health care services utilization and peer review, and reviews disputed charges or services
rendered by health care providers. Medical Services functions as a liaison between health care providers, attorneys, employers,
employees and insurance carriers or self-insured businesses.

Notice to Workers Compensation Insurers Writing in Kansas

The Kansas Division of Workers Compensation (KDWC)under the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) is required by statute (Kansas Statutes Annotated 44-557a) to collect medical information in order to set the medical fee
schedule for the purposes of the Kansas Workers Compensation Act. Since 2002, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has been under contract to KDOL to collect, compile, and analyze such information as
the Director of KDWC has deemed necessary. This has been performed in accordance with the KDHE’s technical manual adopted by reference in Kansas Administrative Regulation 51-9-15. The Workers Comp Med Fee and CPTIV
Program is currently administered by the Division of Health Care Finance under KDHE.
In order to complete the 2012 reporting requirements, as required by statue, all data related to the last quarter of 2012 (service dates through December 31, 2012) will be sent to KDHE to complete that contract year.
For dates of service beginning January 1, 2013, KDWC has contracted the data collection, compilation, analysis, and reporting to the National Council of Compensation Insurance (NCCI) headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida.
For data submissions beginning July 1, 2013 (first quarter 2013 data), data will be submitted to NCCI. Kansas has been included in NCCI's Medical Data Call since its inception in 2010. For NCCI Medical Data Call participants
that have Kansas medical transactions, these transactions will continue to be reportable, in accordance with NCCI's Medical Data Call Reporting Guidebook.
