The Kansas Department of Labor is seeking a Labor Economist to work in Labor Market Information Services. This position is responsible for professional level research, analysis and interpretation of labor market and economic data that serves as a basis for major policy decisions, private business incentives and economic development with Kansas.
As a Labor Economist, you will:
- Acquire knowledge of and implement industry and occupational employment projections at state and local levels.
- Collect, research, analyze, interpret and report labor market and economic data that serves as a basis for major policy decisions, private business initiative, and economic development within the state of Kansas.
- Analyze collected data to ensure the accuracy and integrity of assumptions, variables, and conclusions.
- Prepare and present press release materials.
- Assist LMIS staff with analytical processes &methodologies.
Minimum Requirements: You must have three of years experience in collecting, evaluating, studying or reporting on statistical, economic, fiscal/budget, legislative or administrative data. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Required Proficiency Skill(s): This position requires a Bachelors degree in Economics or a related field. You must also have a working knowledge of statistical packages such as SPSS, SAS, etc.
Preferred Qualifications: Excellent research, quantitative and critical analysis skills for labor market and other sets of economic data. Fluency in word and data processing software such as MS Word, MS Excel, etc.
How You Will Be Evaluated: Your application will be reviewed to ensure you meet the minimum requirements of the class and also will be evaluated and rated based on your ability to demonstrate the following minimum competency factors:
- Knowledge of the principles and methods used in the collection, analysis, and presentation of statistical, economic, and administrative data.
- Knowledge of research design methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of English usage and written communication.
- Knowledge of mathematical and computer modeling in conducting research.
- Knowledge of economic forecasting techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise judgment in collecting statistical, economic, and administrative data and in preparing interpretative reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with fellow employees, administrative officials, and the public.
