July 2010 Labor Report According to July 2010 estimates, Kansas businesses gained 1,700 jobs over the year, a 0.1 percent increase. This is the first over-the-year gain for total nonfarm employment since October 2008.
Kansas Workplace fatalities drop significantly After inching up each of the past five years,
the number of workplace fatalities in Kansas took a significant
fall in 2008. The numbers are reported in the 2008 Census of
Fatal Occupational Injuries.
Emergency unemployment benefits restored After delays lasting more than a month, Congress
has acted to extend the deadline to apply for Emergency Unemployment
Compensation (EUC), restoring benefits for thousands of unemployed
Kansans.

Nonfatal workplace injuries decreasing Kansas workplaces are getting safer according
to the 2009 Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses,
which shows a nearly 10 percent decrease in non fatal accidents
in private industries in the state from 2007 to 2008.

Workplace accidents declining again In conjunction with Workers Memorial Day April
28, the Kansas Department of Labor is releasing the third annual
Workplace Safety Report. The reports shows a 10 percent decrease
from the previous year in the number of workplace injuries
and illnesses.
KDOL provides free workplace posters to Kansas employers Kansas employers are required by state and federal law to display certain posters in the workplace where employees can read them. The Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) provides these posters free of charge to Kansas businesses. Learn more.
Recovery Act information online The KDOL Recovery Act Web site provides monthly details on how American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds are used to assist unemployed Kansans. The site is provided to be responsive, transparent and accountable for ARRA funding.
On the site is a brief overview of the ARRA, a video message from Secretary Garner, at-a-glance charts showing the amount of Recovery Act funds going to the unemployed in Kansas each month, links to the state and federal ARRA sites and information about COBRA Health Insurance benefits.
State’s first Green Jobs Survey finds opportunities for growth in renewable energy, energy efficiency Kansas employers have more than 20,000 green jobs and expect to have more than 30,000 such jobs by 2012, according to results from the state’s first-ever survey to identify and measure green jobs based on information from Kansas employers. KDOL makes reporting unemployment insurance fraud easier The Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) is taking additional measures to detect unemployment insurance fraud with the creation of a new section on the department’s Web site. The new unemployment fraud section allows anyone to report suspected fraud through an online submission form, a printable form or by calling the Fraud Investigations unit directly. Learn more. |
