According to September 2007 estimates, Kansas businesses added 23,700 jobs in the last year, a 1.7 percent increase. All metropolitan areas and 10 of 11 major industries added jobs during the year.
The professional and business services industry continues as the highest job-producing industry in the state by adding 5,900 jobs in the last year. Administrative support services continue to be the largest growth area in this industry.
Government added 4,600 jobs in the last year. Educational institutions within local government remain the largest contributor in this sector.
The education and health services industry added 3,900 jobs in the last year. Health care and services remained the largest area of growth in this sector, reflecting the constant demand for health care workers.
The September unemployment rate remained at 4.3 percent, unchanged from last month and last year.
