Workers Compensation - Industrial Safety & Health SectionConsultation Program Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program Accident Prevention Unit Boiler Safety Inspection Unit Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Public Service UnitUnder state law K.S.A. 44-636, the Industrial Safety & Health Section monitors the public sector (cities, counties, municipalities and school districts) by performing safety and health audits to identify hazards in the work place to which public employees are exposed pertaining to workers compensation. Consultation UnitThe state of Kansas has a contract with the federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) which allows state employees to provide a free consultation service. The consultation program (funded 90 percent by the federal government) provides assistance to employers by helping them recognize, evaluate, and control hazards in the workplace. The program is offered on a voluntary basis, without citations or penalties. All information is confidential. The state of Kansas offers an incentive program, the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP), for employers to become recognized as an exceptionally safe worksite in Kansas. Accident Prevention UnitThis unit monitors the effectiveness of the accident prevention insurance evaluation program by auditing businesses in Kansas to determine if the workers compensation carrier has provided information to the businesses as required under K.S.A. 44-5,104. Boiler Safety Inspection UnitThis section is responsible for the inspection of all boilers used in private or public businesses.
