This online application uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL), 128 bit encryption to protect the data you transmit to us. However, if you are using a public or shared computer (such as in a library or Internet café), others may be able to view your personal information:
- If you stop loading web pages during your filling process; or,
- If you stop the application before the process is complete; or,
- If you fail to click on "Log Off" when you are finished
Your Personal Identification Number (PIN) is your electronic signature. It will help protect you from another person obtaining your personal information or information about your claim. Be sure to keep your PIN confidential.
Remember, only the claimant is authorized to use this system. Allowing someone else to file a claim is fraud on the part of the claimant and the person filing and the claimant will be responsible for any overpayment that results from fraudulent claims. The law provides penalties for making false statements or withholding material information in order to obtain benefits not due you.
Kansas Employment Security Law provides that information provided when filing for unemployment insurance must be kept confidential. Information may only be disclosed to the individual or employing unit which furnished the requested information, except, such information may be provided to public employees to be used in their official public duties. Because of this restriction, we cannot provide information about your claim to any family member.
Protecting personal identity is important to us. Please be advised that:
- E-mail communication is not a secure method of communication
- Any e-mail that is sent between you and this agency may be copied and held by various computers it passes through as it is transmitted
- Persons not participating in the communication between you and KDOL may intercept the communication by improperly accessing your computer or this agency’s computer or even some computer unconnected to either of us that this e-mail passes through
If you do not want to communicate with KDOL through e-mail, please call KDOL or mail your communication to KDOL.
An important goal of the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) is to support lines of communication with members of the public on various topics, including but not limited to unemployment insurance, workplace safety, employer and employee rights, labor market statistics and workers compensation. The use of social media enhances our ability to do this, particularly through social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube. KDOL offers Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube pages as a public service to the community, all of which can be accessed from this page.
Social Media should not be used to seek personal information or information concerning a specific claim. If a person is seeking support with a claim, please contact KDOL during normal business hours, Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., at (785) 296-5000.
All KDOL posts are reviewed for accuracy, veracity and completeness. Information from a posting is subject to change and KDOL will make reasonable efforts to update it as soon as practicable, such as system maintenance updates. Comments made by users do not reflect the views of KDOL or its employees or agents and are not endorsed by KDOL, nor should they be considered as being accurate or verified.
Individuals who interact with KDOL sponsored social media should have no expectation of privacy in their postings. At times, we may reply to user comments to answer a question. KDOL reserves the right to reject or hide* user-generated comments if deemed inappropriate by Facebook filtering software. Examples of comments that are inappropriate include:
- Obscene, vulgar, sexually explicit or otherwise offensive language/content, or links to such material;
- Threats of any kind, particularly toward any other user or KDOL and its employees or agents;
- The advocating of violence, criminal acts or other illegal behavior;
- Material that has the potential to compromise public safety or the safety of KDOL personnel;
- Remarks that disparage or discriminate against anyone based upon their sex, race, creed, religious views, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, etc.
- Campaigning of any type, political or otherwise;
- Links to other third-party sites or advertisements;
- Any form of solicitation.
These are examples of the types of comments that may be removed by KDOL at its sole discretion, and without prior warning or notice, but will be retained for the applicable retention period. KDOL also reserves the right to block access to our social media pages to any user who consistently violates these guidelines, without prior warning or notice.
Public Records Law
Under Kansas law, all content on KDOL’s social media pages, including social media comments, replies, and private messages exchanged with KDOL are part of the public record and are subject to Kansas Public Records Law (KSA 45-217 (g) (1)).
By becoming a fan/follower/subscriber of KDOL, your information and comments will be a matter of public record. The Agency may be required to retain this information in accordance with the State of Kansas retention schedule. Public record requests can be made online; more information can be found on the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA) page. We urge you to protect your privacy and not list any personal or sensitive information about yourself when commenting on a post. Fans/followers/subscriber of KDOL social media should have no expectation of privacy in their postings.
Right to Change
KDOL reserves the right to make changes to these guidelines without notice, and when it becomes necessary to do so. Changes made to these guidelines will take effect the moment they're updated on the official KDOL website and other social media websites or apps, and are viewable to the public.
