The Kansas Department of Labor is taking a major step forward to better serve employees and employers through modernization of the unemployment insurance system.

KDOL has selected Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to update the state’s antiquated IT-legacy system that is used to process unemployment insurance claims. TCS is a leading global IT services and consulting organization that has partnered with several U.S. states to modernize their unemployment insurance systems, including Connecticut, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, New York and Wyoming.

This partnership launches a multi-year initiative focused on transforming the agency’s business processes and core technology systems. It will reshape the way KDOL will do business for Kansas employees and employers by considering business needs and technology solutions from an agency-wide perspective.

The council shall examine and recommend changes to the unemployment compensation system to include current limitations, new features and benefits, system enhancements and dynamic, accurate reporting for the benefit of both employers and individuals. The council shall also examine the process by which an individual files a claim for and receives benefits and any changes made to that process. House Bill No. 2196

The Modernization Council consists of:

  • Representative Sean Tarwater, Chairperson
  • Senator Renee Erickson
  • Senator Jeff Pittman

  • Representative Stephanie Clayton
